Bafana Bafana legend Benni MCarthy has sent a special message to Orlando Pirates co-coach Mandla Ncikazi, someone he describes as his "good friend".
Pirates have booked a spot in the CAF Confederation Cup final after beating Libyan side Al Ahli Tripoli 2-1 on aggregate, qualifying for this stage of the competition for the first time since 2015, when they lost to Tunisian club Etoile du Sahel over two legs. This time, the final will be played once off in Nigeria, Moroccan giants RSB Berkane, on Friday, May 20.
McCarthy, who has been linked with both the head coaching jobs at Pirates and their rivals Kaizer Chiefs, wished Ncikazi everything of the best, saying he wants success for the former Golden Arrows mentor.
Ncikazi and his co-coach Fadlu Davids have come under pressure for Pirates' underwhelming domestic season, but they've kept hopes of a trophy alive by leading the Soweto giants to the final of a continental club competition. Winning it could go a long way in management giving the duo another season to show what they can do in arguably one of the hottest coaching seats on the continent.
"I wish Pirates all the best for qualification of the CAF Confederation Cup (final). Coach Mandla... Great guy, good friend of mine. I want nothing but success for him. I wish him him everything of the best in that endeavour," McCarthy said during the Heineken All-INvitational event.
