Disgruntled Benni On Pirates Clash

AmaZulu coach Benni McCarthy has spoken on chasing a second-place finish on the DStv Premiership log.

After seeing his team lose to Orlando Pirates, McCarthy has spoken on how his former club’s ‘efforts’ could go in vain as Usuthu are in search of a CAF Champions League qualification.

McCarthy was very unhappy with the match officials after the game, with the former Bafana Bafana striker questioning the referee’s decision in awarding a free kick that led to Gabadinho Mango’s goal in their 1-0 loss in Orlando on Thursday, among other queries.

“Now we need to pick ourselves up and also, I think if we played… in two-and-a-half weeks we didn’t have a single game, no friendly games no nothing, and everybody else played. The amount of time, rest period, losing that momentum and losing that rhythm also plays a big part. That’s why you can see the altitude and everything. We weren’t at our level best, but we were also not the worst team on the pitch,” said McCarthy speaking to the media.

“We take it with the pinch of salt, we look back and we go and analyse, and we look forward to our next two matches, because finishing second in the league still depends on us and nobody else. We have to make sure that in the next two games we are more clinical and that we start the match better. Two wins, we finish second, or one win we still finish second [AmaZulu will need to win both their matches to finish second if Pirates win all their remaining matches], so then all the efforts that Pirates and everybody else have done go in vain, because we only need one win from two games now,” the coach added.
