Benni On His Hopes For Pirates Clash

AmaZulu head coach Benni McCarthy, has revealed what his hopes are for the team’s upcoming match against Orlando Pirates.

McCarthy will want to upset Pirates - the last club he played for before he retired in 2013, as he attempts to lead the KwaZulu-Natal giants to a second place finish on the DStv Premiership log if Mamelodi Sundowns gets to defend the title yet again.

Speaking through the club’s media department ahead of Thursday’s match, McCarthy said he hopes that his players will be ready going to Orlando, as well as their other two remaining matches of the 2020/21 campaign after their long break.

“It's been a fairly long 16 days since we played Baroka and then the break. It’s been a bit long but at least it gave us an opportunity to work on some tactics these few days extra that we had to prepare. I would have liked to enjoy it more if we were able to play a one or two friendly games because some of our opponents have played two really tough competitive matches. But I am happy with the attitude and mentality from the boys and the preparations have been good and now we just have to put it into a real match come Thursday. I hope that the boys will be fresh, they will be ready, and they will be hungry because the next three games will be three cup finals for us. The club will be for the first time in this situation that we find ourselves in. It’s better to be in this situation than to chase. We have it in our own hands it all depends on how serious we are about making a real fight,” said McCarthy.

“We know (that) maybe now it’s very much late to challenge Sundowns but we have to do it for ourselves, we have to do it for our families, we have to do it for AmaZulu fans; the faithfuls. It wasn't by chance that we played the football that we’ve played and won the matches that we won. We worked exceptionally hard, the sacrifices that (we) made, so come Thursday hopefully the boys have the same desire and the same hunger to want to win. But we prepared ourselves nicely and (are) ready for Thursday’s match, so we hope it will be a good encounter and an encounter that will put our foot further in the stronghold of a securing that second place finish,” the coach added.
