Amrouche Camp Working On Soweto Giants Link

A big-name African coach is set to be offered to one of the Soweto giants, the Siya crew has been informed.

After failing to win the DStv Premiership title yet again as well as the club's failure to do well in the cup competitions, there have been growing calls from the Orlando Pirates supporters and some legends, for the Buccaneers to make changes to their technical team by bringing in a new coach.

However, co-coaches Mandla Ncikazi and Fadlu Davids have managed to guide Bucs to the semi-finals of the CAF Confederation Cup and with a chance to advance to the final after beating Al-Ahli Tripoli 2-0 in the first leg of their semi-final tie.

Despite the team’s notable progress in the continental competition, the Siya crew has learnt that coaches are being offered to the club by their representatives, with the latest name emerging as that of Algerian-born mentor, Adel Amrouche.

The former Algerian national team coach has been linked with a move to the PSL for some time and was previously said to be also on the radar of Pirates’ rivals, Kaizer Chiefs.

Before Josef Zinnbauer’s resignation as Pirates head coach, Amrouche was linked with the Buccaneers, though the Soweto giants made a decision to replace the German mentor with Ncikazi and Davids as co-coaches for this season.

“Adel Amrouche is currently unattached and is open to coming to South Africa in his next deal. He is a big coach and he’s got people in South Africa who are working on offering him to Pirates for next season,” said the source.

“He is the same coach who was on the radar of Chiefs at some point. The coach is keen to work in the PSL because he says he has worked in North, East, Central and elsewhere in Africa but it is in the Southern part of the continent that he hasn’t got a fair chance with a good project. He is an experienced coach who holds a Uefa Pro License,” the source added.

Gavin Hunt and Benni McCarthy are some of the names bandied about for the Bucs head coaching role in recent weeks, and Amrouche’s name is set to be added onto the list.
