Just to mention a few, Pirates once had a Sudanese striker by the name of Hythan Tambal who came highly recommended but failed to live up to the expectations at the Soweto giants.
As a result, the forward lasted only half a season between July 2006 and January 2007 and was shipped out of the Buccaneers.
In 2011, Bucs signed an attacking midfielder from Niger by the name of Boubacar Talatou with high hopes, but like Tambal he failed to live up to expectations and was released the following year after only one season on the club’s books.
There have been many others, including Nigerian goalkeeper Emmanuel Daniel, Argentinean forward Osvaldo Nartallo, as well as locals like Reason Chiloane and Nkosinathi Mthiyane.
