‘I Want To Leave A Legacy’

Defender Thapelo Xoki says he wants to emulate former Bafana Bafana striker George Dearnaley for his achievements at AmaZulu.

The Khayelitsha-born player, who joined Usuthu in July 2014 from Cape Town-based Old Mutual Academy, has made 20 starts in the Absa Premiership so far this season.

While the focus for AmaZulu this season has been in the fight against relegation, the 25-year-old is looking at the bigger picture in saying that he wants to win trophies with the Durban-based outfit in seasons to come.

“Well, I want to leave a legacy here at AmaZulu FC. A legacy I can be proud of and the one the club can also be proud of. This includes winning trophies with the team and emulate the man, who brought me to this club, George Dearnaley. He was actually part of the last AmaZulu team to win a major trophy (Coca Cola Cup – now known as Telkom Knockout Cup) with the team in 1992,” Xoki told AmaZulu’s official website.

“When I arrived here I made a promise to myself that I would like to accomplish what George achieved with the team and also win a trophy or two with the club. I want to set an example for future generations, who will also play for this club by making my mark and leave a legacy,” added Xoki.
