Agent Provides Details On ODG’s Return

Owen da Gama’s representative has commented on the coach’s return to the topflight after a seven-month absence from the game.

As reported by the Siya crew, Da Gama has joined Sekhukhune United as a co-coach to work alongside MacDonald Makhubedu and the rest of the technical team as the DStv Premiership newcomers leave no stone unturned in establishing themselves as a formidable outfit under ambitious owners in chairman Simon Malatji and CEO Jonas Malatji.

Speaking to the Siya crew, Da Gama’s representative Ratshibvumo Mulovhedzi from Rush Hour Sports Management confirmed that the former Bafana Bafana assistant coach has been chosen among other top candidates who were also earmarked for the job.

“First of all, I would like to say God’s timing is perfect and He has the final say and I am delighted for the return of coach Owen da Gama to topflight football to add his experience to the club. Secondly, I would like to thank Sekhukhune Football Club, especially the chairman Mr. Simon Malatji, as well as CEO Mr. Jonas Malatji for showing trust in the coach by giving him a chance to add his experience to the progress of the team,” said Mulovhedzi.

“From the very first day of my discussions with the CEO about a possibility of bringing in another coach, I recommended Owen because I have been in touch with the coach all this time and I have been aware that he has been looking for a new challenge at a new club. What didn’t sit well with me though and all the parties involved, was seeing reports in the media on Wednesday that the coach was already the club’s employee as the deal was only finalised yesterday. According to my understanding, there were a few other coaches who were considered for the role and that’s why I am so delighted that Owen won the race because I know what he can do, and I have no doubt in his capabilities and what he can do for this ambitious club. Lastly, I would like to say I am honoured to be managing a coach of Owen’s calibre and I am challenging former footballers out there to consider becoming agents so as to add to competitiveness of this industry because not all of them can succeed as coaches due to the limited number of clubs in the DStv Premiership and GladAfrica Championship,” concluded the intermediary.

Gordon Igesund talks about the day Bafana Bafana taught Spain a lesson, walking away with the historic 1-0 win.
