‘It’s High Time SA Coaches Get A Chance’

A former Orlando Pirates player says he has no queries on why Josef Zinnbauer was allowed to leave the club after only one game into the new season.

Zinnbauer vacated his Pirates head coach position on Monday, with the Soweto giants confirming that the German mentor had tendered his resignation.

Zinnbauer’s last game in charge was the 2-1 loss to Swallows FC in the quarter-finals of the MTN8 on Saturday.

The Buccaneers are yet to confirm who will succeed Zinnbauer although indications are that Mandla Ncikazi is in a favourable position to take charge of the team.

Speaking to the Siya crew, former Pirates defender Abednigo Netshiozwi added to the calls for Ncikazi to take over at the Buccaneers.

“The way I see it, it was a wise move by all the parties that the club and the coach had to go their separate ways. It was time for him to leave. The coach has been given enough chance to show what he could do with the team, but he didn’t do that well,” said Netshiozwi.

“Pirates should have done much better than they did last season, and the club did the right thing by allowing the coach to leave. The season is just starting and there is still time for whoever will be taking charge to pick up the pieces to try and challenge for the league and the other cup (Nedbank Cup). I don’t regret anything about the coach leaving. The good thing is that the club does already have Mandla Ncikazi as part of the technical team and Fadlu (Davids) is also there, so I don’t see a problem. It’s high time that South African coaches get a chance to coach big teams like Pirates. I don’t see a problem, Mandla can be a good coach for Pirates, he understands South African football culture and the players better,” the former left-back added.
