Pirates Keeper’s Important Message About Club Success…

With Orlando Pirates set to return to Africa next season to compete in the CAF Confederation Cup after finishing in third place on the Absa Premiership log, an influential player in the team and a top performer has weighed in on the team’s progress.

Goalkeeper Wayne Sandilands, who is expected to sign a new contract with the club after finishing the season as one of the standout performers for Josef Zinnbauer’s team, has explained why he isn’t entirely pleased with what has been achieved.

“You measure success in terms of silverware, this is something we need to reflect on as a team but at the same time if you consider where we come from and in particular how we started the league, third is understandable and we will take it but in the greater scheme of things third is not good enough for Orlando Pirates, silverware is,” said Sandilands, speaking on the club’s official website.

As reported in edition 1190 of Soccer Laduma, the 37-year-old shot-stopper is expected to sign a new deal at the Soweto giants, with his camp having previously informed the Siya crew about the talks between the ex-Mamelodi Sundowns player and the Buccaneers.

Pirates is expected to make an official confirmation about experienced goalkeeper’s future as the club will be making a decision in the coming weeks about the squad for next season.

Sandilands finished the season as one of the two players with the most league starts at Pirates (27), along with the captain of the side Happy Jele.
