Khanye Reveals Plans For PSL’s New Wonderkid

Former Kaizer Chiefs and South African youth international Junior Khanye has provided an update on the future of a talented young midfielder whom he recently facilitated a move for to a PSL club.

Having formed his own club in Daveyton early last year, which he named Fak’imali Uzobona FC, Khanye is excited about the progress he is making in helping talented young footballers from his community realise their dream of playing the game at professional level after assisting Thokozani Mashinini to secure a deal with Sekhukhune United.

After making his debut last weekend and scored against Chiefs in the DStv Diski Challenge, Mashinini has had Sekhukhune management offer him a first team contract, as reported in edition 1259 of Soccer Laduma.

However, after the latest meeting between Khanye and Babina Noko management and some key members of the technical team, it has been decided that the 19-year-old should continue with his progress in the reserve team while being closely monitored over the next few months.

“The chairman called me to discuss the player’s future and he offered the boy a first team contract. But before we could proceed, Sekhukhune United’s technical team member Themba Sithole advised that we do not rush the boy. I had spoken to Themba about the boy last year for him to end up joining the club and I had to listen to him when he suggested that we allow the boy to grow with the reserve team to slowly get him ready for the first team,” said Khanye.

“We have all decided on a development contract of one year and six months for now. But everyone agreed that the boy is talented enough to play for the first team. Everyone was impressed with the way the boy played against Kaizer Chiefs in his first game in the Diski Challenge team. The boy will be closely monitored, and we don’t know what might happen in the next six months. I agreed with coach Themba that it would be important for the player’s development to be done properly and without rushing him,” he added.
