How We Dribbled Past Khoza…

It has been revealed how Kaizer Chiefs beat Orlando Pirates to the signature of Abia Nale in the prime of the attacking midfielder’s career.

It was in 2009 that Nale returned to Gauteng to join Chiefs in a big move from Golden Arrows.

Nale had previously been with the Pirates youth development at the start of his career, before leaving in 2005 to join Manning Rangers.

In 2009, Pirates were looking to bring the player back to their set-up for the first team but were beaten to his signature by their archrivals, as the Sebokeng-born player made a return to Gauteng.

He had been in KwaZulu-Natal with Arrows since 2007, having joined them from a stint with City Pillars.

Abia’s uncle Zacharia Nale, who is actively involved in football with his role at the Nale Football Academy, has reminisced how his nephew ended up at Amakhosi and not at the Buccaneers.

“Down to memory lane…We became business partners and good friends when Abia (Nale) moved from Golden Arrows to joined Kaizer Chiefs. But first we had to dribble past Irvin Khoza who was also after his signature. I learned a lot about the so called ‘football business’ dealing with the most powerful men in SA football. There was a foul play between the three parties but eventually we came to an agreement with Pirates (who) decided to pursue their development compensation,” stated Nale in a statement on his Facebook account, as a caption for the picture he posted of former football agent Walter Mokoena.

Ajax Cape Town, Mpumalanga Black Aces, Maritzburg United and Platinum Stars are some of the other clubs that the talented player turned out for in his professional career.
