Preparations Underway In Mafikeng
Preparations for the semi-final in Mafikeng are already underway as NWU managed to claim a vital point against Kovsies to guarantee them a home fixture against defending champions, UP-Tuks.
The match is a replay of last year's semi-final which the Pretoria side won 1-0 at home, this time though the match will take place in front of nearly ten thousand football crazy fans.
NWU coach Amos Xabanisa said although his side was unable to get maximum points in Bloem, he was happy with their performance despite being unable to convert the numerous chances they created.
"We wanted to win the game but I will happily take the point," he said.
The Mafikeng students fought back from being a goal down late in the first half after Kovsies were awarded a penalty against the run of play.
Xabanisa said the goal never troubled him as his main focus was to get his team to regain their composure and become more clinical in the 18-yard area.
"At half time I told the boys to calm down. They were too frantic in front of goals and that's why we missed so many chances to claim the three points," he added.
The North West students know they will have their hands full with a Tuks team who are peaking at the right time but Xabanisa isn't fazed by that as he knows what to expect from the defending champions.
Xabanisa will be hard at work polishing his attackers' finishing abilities in a match which will test them in every aspect of their game.
Some players have been struggling with illness due to the decline in temperature in the northern regions of the country but the coach knows his players will be fully recovered for the semifinal.
"It's going to be a very tough game for both sides. We will be going all out for the win. We are still unbeaten in the tournament and the cherry on top for us will be to make it to the final and also winning it," he stated.
