Table-Toppers To Set Mafikeng Alight
Mafikeng will set the scene for a fiery top of table Varsity Football clash when contenders, NWU host rampant newcomers, UJ on Monday night.
The match promises to be a mouth-watering affair with both teams unbeaten and vying to claim top honours before the tournament reaches the semi-final stage.
Finishing top before the knock-outs earns that team a home semi-final. Going into this match, both teams are on 11 points with UJ better on goal difference.
The clash should provide a football feast for soccer fans as both teams play a passing game while trying to hold on to as much possession as possible. UJ, in particular, have been turning heads with an exciting brand of German-style football and both teams have been outclassing their opponents with outstanding displays of teamwork and professionalism.
NWU will rely on a clinical attack and hope playmakers Orebotse Mongae, Sandile Mbatha and striker Tshenolo Machwisa produce the same sterling form that has seen them unlock the tightest defences in the tournament this season.
UJ coach, Bradley Carnell, will welcome back captain Grant Bruchhausen, who sat out suspended for their last fixture. He has chosen to rotate his squad with a look to boost his attack with playmakers Kaylan More, Thabi Ledwaba and Carl Clements all included.
NWU are relishing the returns of Matsobane Matsi and Kyle Amon, who were on national duty for the University Sports South Africa (USSA) tournament in Zambia this week. Their inclusion will no doubt bring a welcome burst of composure and experience into their squad.
NWU team manager, Enock Llali, says the players are highly motivated to bag a win after Monday’s stalemate against UP-Tuks. Llali is also pleased they will be fielding an injury free squad.
