South African football legends Doctor Khumalo and Jerry Sikhosana have joined the Nedbank Ke Yona Team search, with a view of helping to unearth future stars for Mzansi.
Since its inception in 2013, the Nedbank Ke Yona Team search has helped to produce players for the PSL, most notably Aubrey Modiba of SuperSport United.
The talent search identification programme’s organisers have confirmed that Khumalo, who is a Kaizer Chiefs and Bafana Bafana legend, as well as ex-Orlando Pirates striker Sikhosana have been roped in to work alongside head coach Khabo Zondo during the seventh edition of the Nedbank Ke Yona Team search.
“The Nedbank Ke Yona Team Search (KYTS) added the expertise of two legends of South African football, former Kaizer Chiefs midfield genius Doctor Khumalo and ex-Orlando Pirates striking sensation Jerry Sikhosana to technical team for the seventh edition,” confirmed KYTS in a statement from Sisa Majola.
“The illustrious duo will work alongside head coach Khabo Zondo, who has been a part of the Nedbank KYTS since its inception in 2013, in finding the best amateur talent in the country and put them on the path to a professional football career,” read the statement.
Nedbank’s Sponsorship Manager Tutu Ntuli added, “We are delighted to have three respected figures in South African football leading KYTS this year. Nedbank is long-time investor in the future of football in South Africa and we are proud to bring star quality and decades of football experience and guidance to players. These individuals will be of great benefit to the youngsters. It is a dream of many of these young players to work with coaches who have truly seen it all in their careers and played at the very highest level. We are thrilled to be able to give the players this experience.”
As confirmed by KYTS, their technical team will also include Percy Moloi, Collen Mashawa and goalkeeper coach Tshepo Makgata. It has been further confirmed that KYTS will be at the Thohoyandou Stadium this Saturday.
The first set of trials were held in East London last weekend.
