Five Players Suspended For Nedbank Cup Quarter-Finals
Five players and a coach will be forced into the stands for this weekend’s Nedbank Cup quarter-finals as they serve their respective suspensions.
Over Saturday and Sunday, there will be eight clubs going head-to-head for a spot in the semi-finals of the tournament, with only Kaizer Chiefs and Mamelodi Sundowns who have won the cup before.
The first two games of the weekend will see Maritzburg United, who are without both Bevan Fransman and Pogiso Sanoka, take on a Bloemfontein Celtic who will have to make do without Lantshene Phalane, while Ubuntu Cape Town face a Free State Stars whose head coach, Luc Eymael, will not be present.
On Saturday night the Amakhosi host Baroka at Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium in Port Elizabeth without any suspensions of their own, though Baroka’s Mpho Kgaswane will have to sit this one out after his yellow card in the last round.
Lastly, for the final spot in the semis, Cape Town City welcome Sundowns back to the Mother City on Sunday afternoon but will have to make a plan to cater for Lyle Lakay’s absence following his fourth booking of the season during the win over Orlando Pirates.
