The Nedbank Cup match between Cape Town City and Orlando Pirates has been dubbed as the final before the final.
In what will be the last match of the round of 16 stage of the Nedbank Cup, City will host Pirates at the Cape Town Stadium on Wednesday night.
The match is arguably the biggest of the Last 16 and Pirates head coach Milutin Sredojevic has dubbed the match as the final before the final.
“We do not think beyond this game. It is full focus on 90, and possibly more minutes on the game against Cape Town. It is a very good match that will tell us where we are at present, from the point of all things that we are doing on and off the field,” Sredojevic told the media this week.
“There’s one visible match that will be there at Cape Town Stadium and there’s one visible match that in preparation and out of the field, we are doing in order to be fully theoretically aware (of) the opponents’ strengths and weaknesses and to be mentally strong, because we know that in cup it’s very simple, you’re either in or out.
"So, we are fully aware of that. We have the mental strength that will carry us in that match. We need to be physically fit to answer to a very good team of Cape Town City that until having lost against (Kaizer) Chiefs have been in contention for the league. They are still in contention after their last win (against Chippa United),” added the coach.
“So, having that in mind, we know that this is the derby match of this round of Nedbank, and is in a way a final before the final. Technical effectiveness and tactical competitiveness are the main factors we are looking at. We want to take all the pressure from our players. We want to put them in the game in a relaxed mood in order to express themselves to play good football and to get the results that will make us go through,” said the Serbian.
“We know that we are in prayers and the minds of our supporters. They are our player number 12. They have been with us at the stadium with their support. We are looking forward to (giving) them more tables of healing their souls from all the things that have happened in the past,” concluded the coach.
