Starlet On Fans, Winning The Nedbank & Chiefs CAF Ambitions
Siyabonga Ngezana Wants Kaizer Chiefs To Qualify For CAF
Kaizer Chiefs’ young defender, Siyabonga Ngezana, says the club wants to win the Nedbank Cup for their supporters and to grab a spot in the CAF Confederation Cup.
The Amakhosi go into this weekend’s clash with Free State Stars knowing that it’s their final opportunity to win a trophy this season, and the 20-year-old is well aware of the fact that going three seasons without silverware is unacceptable at a club like Chiefs.
It remains to be seen whether the young defender, who has played 16 games in the gold and black this season, will be given a starting berth against Ea Lla Koto on Saturday night, but he believes they need the win more than their opponents. Also, he wants to play in next year's CCC.
Speaking to the media this week, Ngezana said, “Setbacks are opportunities for great comebacks, and we’re fully focused on the game on Saturday, which is a big one for us and for our fans. We need to have something to brag about at the end of the season, and we need to fulfil our promises that we made to our supporters at the start of the season.
“We haven’t won anything for the past three seasons, and I think we need to win this weekend’s game more than Free State Stars do. In fact, we need the Nedbank Cup as a whole because it also comes with CAF qualification, so this is the one we’re pinning our focus on.”
Chiefs are on the verge of going three campaigns without a trophy for the first time in the history of the club since they were formed in 1970, and Ngezana is eager to make sure that it doesn’t happen.
