Pirates Player Ratings V Tornado

Soccer Laduma rates the individual performances of the Orlando Pirates players following their 4-0 win against Tornado in a Nedbank, Last 32 match on 18 February 2015

Brighton Mhlongo: 6

The keeper didn’t have much to do, but when called upon he performed his duties well. He pulled off one good save right at the death.

Happy Jele: 6

Was solid in defence in his right back-position. He also got forward down the flank and created some scoring chances. He was also a threat in the box with his height and had a couple headers on goal. He also had a couple shots on goal which were narrowly wide.

Tshepo Gumede: 6

It was a solid debut for Gumede who really had an easy night. He was not really tested in his centre-back role, but did what was required of him.

Rooi Mahamutsa: 6

It was a quiet night for Mahamutsa in the centre of defence. Still he was solid and consistent when called upon.

Thabo Matlaba: 7

Matlaba worked his socks off up and down the left flank. He defended well and he also got forward in attack. He supplied some dangerous crosses into the box and also some shots on goal although they were a little wayward. Had to go off in the 50th minute with a slight knock.

Mpho Makola: 7

Was enterprising in his midfield role, often swopping flanks with Myeni. He was a constant threat in attack with his crosses into the box. He also had a couple of shots on goal. He created the game’s second goal. Makola also struck the crossbar in the second half with a 20-yard shot. Was substituted in the 77th minute.

Issa Sarr: 7

Was his usual consistent self in the heart of the Pirates midfield. He played his defensive midfield role to the tee and also added something in attack with his through balls. He also had a couple shots on goal which were just wide.

Thandani Ntshumayelo: 8

Came into the team in the absence of Manyisa (out due to suspension) and did well in his creative midfield role. He was a constant threat in attack and scored his side’s second goal and their third goal – grabbing a brace on the night.

Sifiso Myeni: 7

Was enterprising in attack and got down the flanks well, but his supply into the box was not at its best. He did have one moment of brilliance in the first half when he dribbled his way past a couple of defenders in the box before the keeper smothered him. He did strike the crossbar late in the second half with a 16-yard shot. He also scored Pirates’ fourth goal.

Lennox Bacela: 7

Was a good night for the striker who caused problems for the Tornado defence every time Pirates attacked. His off-the-ball running was good and saw him win a penalty for the Buccaneers which he converted.

Kermit Erasmus: 6

Was an average night for Erasmus who created some scoring chances for his teammates, but he had very few shots on goal himself. Was substituted in the 64th minute.

Substitutes

Ayanda Ngcaba: 6

Came on in the 50th minute for an injured Matlaba and did his job well. He did not have much of an impact on the game, but did nothing wrong while on.

Thabo Rakhale: 6

Came on in the 64th minute. Was quite for the most part, but did create the fourth goal for Myeni.

Menzi Masuku: 6

Came on in the 77th minute. Did not have much of an impact, but did miss a sitter from six-yards out.
