Polokwane City crashed out of the Nedbank Cup after losing 3-2 to National First Division side Ubuntu Cape Town in extra time.

Rise and Shine broke the deadlock after 13 minutes when Salulan Phiri fired home a shot from the edge of the box.

Franklin Cale went close for Ubuntu in the 23rd minute as his curling effort sailed just wide of the mark.

The host managed to carve out a couple more chances as the half went on, with Khanyisa Mayo going close on two occasions.

Ubuntu managed to level matters on the stroke of halftime when Ranga Chivaviro bundled the ball home from close range, 1-1.

Three minutes into the second half, Chivaviro put the home side ahead with a close range header, 2-1.

Polokwane were then reduced to 10 men on the hour mark when Sibusiso Mbonani was sent off for picking up his second yellow card of the game.

Despite being a man down, the visitors leveled matters on 68 minutes through Walter Musona's long range strike.

That proved to be the final piece of goal-mouth action for the rest of the half as the sides were forced into extra-time.

Ubuntu took the lead in the 114th minute through Siyambonga Madikane's close range finish, 3-2.

The final stages of extra time saw the NFD outfit remain resolute as they saw out the match to advance to the Last 16 in their debut season in the Nedbank Cup.
