Date: 10 February 2018

Maritzburg United booked their spot in the Last 16 of the Nedbank Cup, after defeating Swallows FC 3-1 in extra-time.

Andrea Fileccia grabbed the lead for the Team of Choice in the second minute, with a half-volley at the far post following a cross from Mxolisi Kunene.
Fileccia almost doubled the lead in the 11th minute with a free-header inside the box, but his effort sailed over the bar.
Joseph Banyane was close to getting on the score-sheet in the 14th minute, after his long range strike was parried away by Bongani Mpandle.
Tshepo Mashego almost equalised for the Dube Birds in the 22nd minute after a brilliant run on the near post, but his out-stretched strike hit the outside of the post.
Mashego did find the equaliser for Swallows in the 34th minute, after shielding the ball brilliantly before volleying past Mpandle, 1-1.
The Birds were energised thereafter and were unlucky not to have gone into the lead before halftime after Mashego hit the post.
Fileccia should have got his brace 10 minutes into the second stanza, after he found a loose ball to go through one-on-one with the goalkeeper, but Vusimuzi Ntikinga made a brilliant stop to keep the scores level.
The tempo of the match was slowed down with 20 minutes remaining, following a frantic start to the second stanza.
Yazid Atouba could have sent Fadlu Davids’ troops ahead eight minutes before time, but his close-range strike was smothered by Ntikinga.
Neither side could find a winning in the closing stages, forcing the clash into extra-time.
Fileccia got his brace in the seventh minute of extra-time, after latching onto a loose ball to power through a strike past Ntikinga, 1-2.
Fileccia did not get a chance to get his hat-trick, as he was withdrawn on the stroke of halftime in extra time, with Mohau Mokate taking his place upfront.
Mxolisi  Kunene sealed the win for the Team of Choice seven minutes before time, with a powerful strike at the near post, 1-3.
