Motupa Fires 10-Man Baroka Past Dikwena

Nedbank Cup

Result: Platinum Stars 0-1 Baroka FC

Date: 14 February 2018

Venue: Royal Bafokeng Stadium

Gift Motupa's second-half penalty was enough to hand ten-man Baroka FC a 1-0 win over Platinum Stars in their Nedbank Cup round of 32 clash.

Letsie Koapeng should have opened the scoring in the third minute of the match after beating the offside-trap to go through on goal, but he fired his shot straight at Baroka goalkeeper Ayanda Dlamini.

Gerald Phiri unleashed a powerful left-footed strike in the 16th minute from 25-yards out but Dlamini was on hand to pull off another fine save.

Dikwena were bossing the game after 25 minutes, with the visitors unusually playing deep in their own half.

The tempo of the match slowed down with five minutes left to play as the two sides lacked creativity going forward hardly, which led to a lack of chances.

However, Norodien had a chance to give Dikwena the lead on the stroke of halftime in a goal-mouth scramble from close range but his tame shot was gathered by Dlamini.

Seven minutes after the break, Charles Baloyi almost broke the deadlock for Stars with a snap-shot just outside the box that sailed just over the crossbar.

Roger De Sa made his first change on the hour-mark, bringing on Bonginkosi Ntuli for Koapeng.

In the 68th minute, Bakgaga were awarded a penalty, which Motupa converted with no issue to put the visitors ahead.

The visitors were then reduced to 10 men 15 minutes before time after Goodman Mosele received his second booking of the game.

Stars threw numbers forward in search of an equaliser in the closing stages, but Baroka remained resolute at the back and held for the win narrow win.
