Morrison Brace Sends Bucs Into Nedbank Cup Last 16

Nedbank Cup

Result: Orlando Pirates 2-0 Ajax Cape Town

Date: 10 February 2018

Venue: Orlando Stadium

Orlando Pirates advanced to the Last 16 of the Nedbank Cup, after defeating Ajax Cape Town 2-0 thanks to a brace from Bernard Morrison.

The Buccaneers allowed Tendai Ndoro to turn and shoot inside the box, following a long throw in the seventh minute and they were nearly punished as the Zimbabwean striker missed the target by inches.

Ndoro had another chance to open the scoring for Ajax in the 12th minute on a half-volley, unmarked inside the box but his effort sailed over the crossbbar.

Bernard Morrison almost caught Jody February off his line in the 24th minute, with a long range chip but his strike sailed just wide of the upright.

After long periods of domination, Morrison found the breakthrough for the home side three minutes, before halftime with a close range finish following a good assist from Justin Shonga, 1-0.

Grant Margeman almost equalised on the stroke of halftime with a powerful strike from just outside the box, but goalkeeper Siyabonga Mpontshane made a great stop to keep the scores level.

Morrison completed his brace four minutes into the second stanza by shrugging off Siyanda Zwane, before calmly slotting past February.

The Buccaneers held the ball in their own half, as they looked to draw the visitors out of their defensive blocks.

With Pirates pushing for more goals, Sredojevic introduced Luvuyo Memela in the 67th minute for Shonga.

Thembinkosi Lorch should have made it 3-0 with 10 minutes left on the clock, after going one-on-one with February but the striker could not find the target.

Lyle Foster had a chance to get on the scoresheet on 85 minutes, but he shot wide across the face of goal from inside the box.

Ndoro should have reduced the deficit in second-half stoppage time with a diving header, but he could not find the target as the score remained 2-0 at the final whistle.
