Nedbank Cup

Result: Chippa United 0-0 SuperSport United (SuperSport won 4-2 on penalties)

Date: 20 May 2017

Venue: Sisa Dukashe Stadium

SuperSport United advanced to the Nedbank Cup final, after defeating Chippa United 4-2 on penalties on Saturday evening.

The Chilli Boys enjoyed a lot of possession in the opening 10 minutes although most of their passes were made in the middle of the park.

SuperSport, on the other hand, were quite content to sit back and allowed Chippa to dictate the play, but Stuart Baxter's charges struggled to create chances of their own as the half went on.

The first chance of the game eventually arrived after 27 minutes when Sandile Zuke pounced a poor back pass, surged into the box but sent his lob wide of the upright.

Dan Malesela was not too pleased with his side's display and reacted with a substitution, as Xolani Mdaki made way for Siyabonga Ngubane in the 35th minute.

The home side did end the first half on a stronger note in terms of possession, although chances were hard to come by, much to the frustration of the supporters, who expressed their dissatisfaction.

Baxter opted for a double change at the start of the second half as Mandla Masango and Bradley Grobler replaced Thabo Mnyamane and Teboho Mokoena.

After a quiet opening to the half, SuperSport should have broken the deadlock after 64 minutes when Jeremy Brockie's pass found Thuso Phala, who blazed over the crossbar from 12-yards out.

Chippa had a chance of their own six minutes later as substitute Rhulani Manzini cut in from the right and fired just wide of Ronwen Williams' upright.

The game began opening up but the visitors squandered another chance in the 80th minute as un-marked Jeremy Brockie volleyed over the crossbar from inside the box.

Neither side could break the deadlock in the closing stages, which forced the clash into another 30 minutes of extra time.

The Chilli Boys had the best chance in extra time with five minutes remaining when Lerato Manzini's long range effort shaved the upright.

However, the clash proceeded to a penalty shoot-out, where SuperSport held their nerve to triumph and advance to the final.

Here's how they lined up:

Chippa: 1. Akpeyi, 7. Mako, 24. Thopola, 13. Chabalala, 17. Mvelase, 41. Masuku, 15. Zuke, 33. Mdaki (Ngubane 35'), 10. Mbenyane, 26. Mbokoma, 43. Mashego.

SuperSport: 30. Williams, 5. Boxall, 4. Daniels, 29. Gould, 14. Bhasera, 6. Letsholonyane, 8. Furman, 28. Mokoena, 13. Phala, 23. Mnyamane, 11.Brockie.
