Nedbank Cup

Result: Chippa United 1-0 Jomo Cosmos

Date: 22 April 2017

Venue: Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium

Lerato Manzini scored late in the second-half to hand Chippa United a 1-0 win over Jomo Cosmos in the Nedbank Cup quarter-finals at the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium.

Chippa United are through to the semi-finals of the competition for the first time in their history.

The Chilli Boys started very well, showing the intentions to get an early goal.

In the 15th minute Lerato Manzini had a good chance to open the scoring for the Chilli Boys but his right footed shot from just outside the box missed narrowly wide.

Linda Mntambo had good crack at goal for Ezenkosi after 31 minutes, but missed wide to the left after a good counter-attack.

Dan Malesela's charges were slowing down in the pace of their attacks and Ezenkosi were winning the second-balls and able to launch attacks from the half-way line.

However, the match went into the half-time break with the two sides logged at 0-0.

Ezenkosi started to attack with intent upon resumption of the second half, but struggling to carve out openings.

In the 62nd minute Tshwarelo Bereng came close for Ezenkosi after latching onto a loose ball inside around the box but his effort went over the bar.

In the 72nd minute Lerato Manzini punished Ezenkosi with a beautiful goal breaking the deadlock by heading home, after some sloppy play by Cosmos.

Thamsanqa Sangweni had a great chance to give the Chilli Boys a two-goal cushion in the 80th minute, but his free-kick skimmed off the top of the crossbar.

Ezenkosi pushed for the equaliser but the experience of the Chilli Boys proved to be the difference as they stood firm to deny Sono's men the chance of a comeback.
