Date: 09 February 2018

Venue: Athlone Stadium

Mamelodi Sundowns advanced to the next round of the Nedbank Cup after defeating Cape Town All Stars 1-0, with Percy Tau netting the game's only goal.

Percy Tau had a chance to open the scoring in the 11th minute from a free-kick just outside the box but his strike was smothered by goalkeeper Ludwe Mpakumpaku.

Igugu Lekapa were not overawed by their opponents as they showed a lot of confidence to build from the back and looked organised defensively.

Ntshuxeko Ndlovu had the first shot in anger for Stars  in the 22nd minute with a curling strike from the edge of the box that sailed just over the crossbar.

Ndlovu nearly broke the deadlock All Stars in the 33rd minute with his strike taking a wicked deflection that almost caught Razak flat-footed, only for the strike pull wide.

The Brazilians had a good attacking spell approaching the 40th minute but were taking one-touch-too-many in the last third and lost their opportunities as the sides went into the break goalless.

Lucky Setelele should have put Stars ahead three minutes after the break but he missed the target from point-blank range.

Ndlovu had a another glorious chance to find the breakthrough for Stars just before the hour but he dragged his effort wide with only the All Stars goalkeeper to beat.

Tau punished the hosts three minutes later by slotting the ball into the bottom  corner after being picked out by Gaston Sirino.

Ruzaigh Gamildien fancied his chances from long range 10 minutes before time but he was off the mark as time was running out for the National First Division side.

Tau had a chance to get his brace with seven minutes remaining after being setup by Thokozani Sekotlong but he skied his shot over the bar before Sirino squandered a similar chance minutes later.

Masandawana could have added more goals late on but settled for a 1-0 victory in the end against a wasteful Stars.
