Resurgent TTM Secure Nedbank Cup Semi-Final Spot

Nedbank Cup

Result: Black Leopards 0-2 Tshakhuma Tsha Madzivhandila

Date: 14 March 2021

Venue: Thohoyandou Stadium

Tshakhuma Tsha Madzivhandila secured passage to the semi-finals of the Nedbank Cup for the first time after beating Limpopo rivals Black Leopards 2-0 on Sunday evening.

Leopards made three changes, as they recalled Ovidy Karuru, Tsheamo Mashoene and Onyedikachi Ononogbu while TTM brought back Mogakolodi Ngele, Miguel Timm, Lerato Lamola, Ndabayithethwa Ndlondlo and Lebohang Mabotja.

Ngele thought he had fired Vhadau Vha Damani ahead in the third minute after shot-stopper King Ndlovu spilled a free-kick on his path and he had an easy tap-in but the goal was disallowed for a foul on the Leopards goalkeeper.

Ononogbu came close to breaking the deadlock for Lidoda Duvha in the 22nd minute with a volley that took a bounce and looped towards the top corner but goalkeeper Washington Arubi tipped his effort over the bar.

Ndlondlo finally broke the ice for TTM seven minutes before the break after Tsepo Matsimbi's clearance ricocheted off his body and he went through on goal to pick his spot in the bottom corner.

Edwin Gyimah had a big chance to level matters for Leopards just before the break after he latched onto loose ball at the back post from a defensive error but his thumping volley was saved by Arubi, as Tshakhuma took a 1-0 lead to the break.

Lidoda Duvha were putting TTM under pressure in the early stages of the second stanza and Khomotso Masia came close to getting the equaliser on the hour-mark with a header in the centre of the box that missed slightly wide after a cross by Ononogbu.

Tshakhuma had a better defensive shape in the latter phase, searching for chances on the break and they were awarded a penalty in the last ten minutes after Gyimah brought down Lamola inside the box from a through ball.

Alfred Ndengane made no mistake from the spot to double the lead for TTM and effectively killed off the game, as Tshakhuma booked their spot in the semi-finals for for the first time in their history.
