Teams: AmaZulu 2-3 Ubuntu Cape Town

Date: 09 March 2018

Venue: King Zwelithini Stadium

Ubuntu Cape Town's giant-killing run in the Nedbank Cup continued after they defeated AmaZulu 3-2 in the round of 16 on Friday evening.

The Mother City outfit booked their place in the last-16 with victory over Polokwane City in the previous round and made it two Premiership scalps from two against Usuthu.

The visitors grabbed the lead in the seventh minute after defender Clint Fredericks sent a fine header into the bottom corner following a cross from the left wing, 0-1.

Usuthu were awakened by the concession and started bombing forward with pace but they could not create clear-cut opportunities.

Duncan Adonis gave the Cape side a 2-0 lead in the 25th minute with a side-footed finish from close range after a counter-attack.

Cavin Johnson's charges applied the pressure going forward but they left themselves exposed to counter-attacks on numerous occasions.

The score remained 2-0 to visitors at the halftime break.

Kamohelo Mahlatsi made it 3-0 two minutes into the second stanza with a good finish inside the box, which left the top tier outfit shocked.

However, the hosts showed a sense of urgency going forward towards the hour-mark but they were not troubling Ubuntu goalkeeper Buti Khoza.

Usuthu reduced the deficit with 15 minutes remaining when Khenyeza sent a superb header into the far corner.

The hosts continued to push for more goals and they went close after 80 minutes when they struck the upright on two occasions in quick succession.

AmaZulu did pull another goal back in the 89th minute with another header as Ovidy Karuru sent a fine diving effort past Khoza.

However, Ubuntu managed to see out the final minutes of the game to claim the win and book their spot in the quarter-finals.
