Full Time: Orlando Pirates 4-0 Tornado FC

Date: 18 February 2015

Venue: Orlando Stadium

A brace from Thandani Ntshumayelo helped Orlando Pirates to an impressive 4-0 win over Tornado in a Nedbank Cup, Last 32 match at the Orlando Stadium on Wednesday night.

The Buccaneers dominated from the opening whistle and dictated the flow of play as they had the lion’s share of possession.

The home side were afforded the perfect opportunity to open the scoring as early as the sixth minute when Mapogo Maphakane pulled Lennox Bacela down inside the box and the referee awarded a penalty.

Bacela stepped up and coolly slotted home from the spot-kick to give Pirates the lead, 1-0.

The Buccaneers continued to marshal proceedings after that and doubled their lead in the 24th minute when a quick throw-in on the left saw Mpho Makola break down the flank and square for Ntshumayelo to tuck home from eight-yards out, 2-0.

Ten minutes later only a brilliant save from the keeper saw Tornado stay two behind when Bacela met a right wing cross from Makola, but his header was palmed away from danger in acrobatic fashion.

The Tornado keeper was called into action again two minutes before the break, this time the shot-stopper was at full stretch to turn a Makola 30-yard shot around the post.

The half ended 2-0 in favour of the home side.

The second half continued in the same fashion, but one of the biggest talking points occurred in the 54th minute when the referee showed Mapogo Maphakane a second yellow card, but failed to send him off.

Only four minutes later after the fourth official took the field and told the referee it was the players second yellow card did he show Mapogo Maphakane the red card.

With Tornado down to ten men it was only a matter of time before Pirates found their third goal and they came close in the 71st minute when a 20-yard shot from Makola struck the crossbar.

A minute later the Buccaneers did score their third when Ntshumayelo broke behind the defence and found his second of the game with only the keeper to beat, 3-0.

It was almost four for Pirates in the 83rd minute, but Sifiso Myeni’s shot from just inside the box, while beating the keeper, struck the woodwork.

Four minutes later Myeni did find a goal when he awkwardly turned home a left wing cross from Thabo Rakhale, 4-0.
