Mpumalanga Black Aces advanced to the next round of the Nedbank Cup after defeating Maritzburg United 2-1 at the Mbombela Stadium on Wednesday night.
Aces could have been ahead as early as the first minute but Virgil Vries was on hand to deny Collins Mbesuma from close range.
Vries was called into action once again in the 12th minute, as Mbesuma exchanged passes with Dino Ndlovu, before forcing the Maritzburg shot-stopper into a fine save.
Aces took advantage of their early dominance and went ahead in the 25th minute courtesy of a fine free-kick from Lehlohonolo Nonyane.
Maritzburg struggled to create meaningful efforts on target but went close just before the halftime break, as Jackson Mabokgwane tipped Deolin Mekoa's left-footed effort over the bar.
However, it was Aces who doubled their lead in the 60th minute courtesy of strike from Dino Ndlovu on his debut for the club.
Mohammed Anas pulled a goal back for Maritzburg United in the 75th minute, as they hoped to set up a tense final 15 minutes at the Mbombela Stadium.
Although, Maritzburg's task was made tougher 10 minutes later, after Ryan de Jongh was shown his second yellow card of the game.
Clive Barker's men managed to see out the rest of the game and secured their spot in the Last 16.
