Bidvest Wits secured their spot in the quarterfinals of the Nedbank Cup after they defeated the University of Pretoria 3-0 at the Bidvest Stadium on Tuesday night.
The opening exchanges of the first half proved to be a cagey affair, as both sides were quite content just to size each other up.
The first meaningful chance arrived in the just after the 20-minute mark when Sibusiso Vilakazi teed up Papy Faty, who blasted over from the edge of the area.
Wits eventually broke the deadlock in the 39th minute when an un-marked Kees Kwaakman volleyed into the far corner, after AmaTuks failed to clear an in-swinging free-kick.
The visitors could have hit back a minute later but Moeneeb Josephs was on hand to keep out Geofrey Massa's header.
Wits doubled their lead 10 minutes after the halftime break, as Vilakazi turned home Jabulani Shongwe's cross at the near post.
It got better for Gavin Hunt's men in the 63rd minute when Henrico Botes collected a pass from Christopher Katongo before rifling the ball beyond Washington Arubi for Wits' third goal.
AmaTuks' struggled to create openings in the second half but went close in the 79th minute, as substitute Bennett Chenene skipped past two defenders, before firing into the side-netting.
Wits managed to see out the rest of the game with relative ease and even handed a first team debut to 16-year-old, Liam Jordan.
