Morrison: I Had To Prove To Rhulani I Deserve To Play
Following his brace for Orlando Pirates against Ajax Cape Town in the Nedbank Cup first round, Bernard Morrison says he had to prove to assistant coach Rhulani Mokwena that he deserves to play for the club.
Morrison struck in either half to give the Buccaneers a 2-0 win and a spot in the last 16 at the Orlando Stadium on Saturday evening.
“First and foremost, I would like to thank the management and technical team for giving me the chance to play for the club again because there were lots of talks before of me wanting to leave, but I thank the club management for standing by me and giving me the opportunity to play for the club again,”Morrison told SuperSport after the game.
The Ghanaian states he had to make use of his opportunity after a lengthy spell on the sidelines, as it was a case of do-or-die for him.
“I had a meeting with Rhulani (Mokwena) in the hotel, and he said he is giving me the opportunity to perform. I have to prove to the supporters and myself that I can do better," he added.
“So if I didn’t grab this opportunity there’s no way I was going to represent this club again. So I had to prove to Rhulani that I deserve the opportunity giving to me."
