Siyabonga Zulu made his official debut for Mamelodi Sundowns on Friday, with the Brazilians’ assistant coach stating that he is was impressed with the player’s performance.
Sundowns claimed a 1-0 win over Cape Town All Stars on Friday, February 09, which saw them advance to the next round of the Nedbank Cup competition.
Zulu, who was signed by the Brazilians during the past January transfer window, put in his first shift for the Sundowns side, with assistant coach, Manqoba Mngqithi revealing that he did not expect such a performance by the left-back.
“It is very surprising to note that his first half was one of the best, for a player that played his first match at Sundowns, I did not expect him to perform the way he performed in the first half,” he revealed
However, Mngqithi went on to admit that the player’s second half was not up to par with his first, but was overall happy with Zulu’s performance.
“Unfortunately for him, his second half was not the same. He started getting agitated and started playing first touch. Maybe a little bit pressure and tiredness but, his second half was not the same as his first half.”
“First half he was very influential with Aubrey on the left and he bombed forward a lot and created some good moments for Jeremy inside the box.”
“But, it was not a terrible second half, but it had a lot of question marks compared to the first half. But as a coach, the performance that he showed in his first match I was happy.”
