Magic FC’s goalkeeper, Stefan Van Neel has admitted that their upcoming Nedbank Cup clash against Kaizer Chiefs is a fantasy encounter for his side.
The Western Cape ABC Motsepe League club is currently fighting for promotion in the current 2018/19 campaign, with the team’s goalkeeper aware of the side's priorities of winning the league and taking nothing away from the exciting prospect of upsetting Chiefs on the day, describing the encounter as a bonus to their current season.
Speaking to the Siya crew, Van Neel revealed that if his side can pull off a great team effort, anything can happen on the day.
“We have quite a happy and positive camp, everyone is obviously excited because we playing against Kaizer Chiefs, which is one of the biggest football brands in Africa. But I think the closer we get to the game the nerves will slowly creep in as we will probably be playing in front of quite a big crowd as we know Chiefs to pull,” the former Ajax Cape Town goalkeeper told Soccer Laduma.
“We obviously know what type of football Chiefs play, so we are working on various game plans and hopefully on the day it all comes together.
“I don’t really think any team needs motivation when you coming up against Chiefs. Basically, they were saying that we should enjoy every moment of this week with the media attention and all that.
“Honestly, anything can happen on the day. We firmly believe in the squad that we have and we know that it will come down firmly to a great team effort and as long as we minimise our mistakes we stand a chance.
“At the end of the day this is a fantasy game for us, this is just a bonus as the league is our main priority and we have absolutely nothing to lose.
Magic will lock horns with Chiefs at the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium on Sunday, February 17.
