Eymael Takes Another Swing At Komphela?
Luc Eymael Has Seemingly Taken Another Dig At An Ex-Kaizer Chiefs Coach
Luc Eymael and Steve Komphela have been involved in a war of words of sorts recently, and the Belgian seemed to take a swipe at the former Amakhosi coach after winning the Nedbank Cup.
The 58-year-old helped Ea Lla Koto win their first trophy in 24 years when they lifted the Nedbank title in Cape Town over the weekend, adding another achievement to his list as he got off the mark in Mzansi.
Having been heavily linked with the job at Kaizer Chiefs prior to Komphela’s resignation at Naturena, things were said between both parties that suggested some bad blood there, and it would appear that the Stars coach won’t let it lie.
Speaking in the post-match press conference, Eymael said, “Now I came to Free State Stars‚ second year in South Africa‚ one trophy… I know some of the guys who have worked 13 years without winning a trophy.”
Komphela left Chiefs last month after three seasons at Chiefs without a trophy‚ and the 50-year-old is yet to win silverware in his career as a coach.
Meanwhile, Eymael also offered an ultimatum of sorts regarding his future by saying, “I am still contracted to Stars… I can tell you that I have not had an official offer from any club. They always say there is no smoke without a fire.
“But I am going back to Belgium soon – if something is going to happen it has to happen this week because if nothing happens when I come back from Belgium I will go back to Free State. Let me also add, that I am very happy at Stars.”
He also added that Stars have improved his contract at the club for next season.
