Khune Hits Impressive Amakhosi Milestone

Kaizer Chiefs' Itumeleng Khune Played His 300th Game At The Weekend

By Soccer Laduma - Mar 12, 2018 10:04 AM
Itumeleng Khune’s attempts to leave a long-term mark at Kaizer Chiefs were boosted over the weekend as the shot-stopper hit an impressive milestone.

See how Khune reached his 300 games in the gallery above

The 30-year-old made his debut for the Amakhosi back in 2007 when he played against Jomo Cosmos, and it is fitting that his 10th season with the club also marks his 300th appearance.

Khune hit his triple century during the 2-1 win over Stellenbosch FC over the weekend, celebrating it with a spot in the quarter-finals of this year’s Nedbank Cup.

Discussing his future with Chiefs’ official website, the goalkeeper is quoted as saying, “With age, my body strength is slowly regressing, but I am able to read situations much faster and, as a result, close down situations before they become dangerous. Goalkeeping is like good wine, the older the better.

“I am still hungry for more success and want to win more trophies.”

Khune could potentially become the club’s record holder in terms of appearances if he can keep himself going for a few more seasons, with Doctor Khumalo currently holding that title with 397 games for the Amakhosi.

First, though, Khune has to catch Siphiwe Tshabalala – who made his 300th appearance last season – a player who is set to land himself a new contract at Naturena in the near future.

He would have even reach 400 appearance if it wasn't these injuries that's been hindering his progress.

@Dangerous when provoked I didn't provoke you this time . This cowne was caught on the camera pointing his wrist showing the fans that he was indeed wasting time against Cape Verde . Banana lost that game although they finish above other teams in that group because Fifa couldn't tolerate his childish behaviour.

@dellah CCL and CCC are only few games as compared to games in the league, games in the National teams, games in all cups etc. For 10 seasons that is a great achievement. He was just unfortunate to get a red card in 2010 World Cup.

@Nteoooo Khune is targetted by strikers. They kick him in order to make him weak. I wonder what is your motive in this regard because you are either far away in the stands, in a suite or in your sofa. He is in the field of play and he is being kicked. He is the one who is wearing the shoes so he knows exactly where they pinch. What would you say about the keeper of Polokwane City? Khune is doing fine and he is the target. Tell us more about your job and your performance including meeting the set targets and salary.
