Chiefs Duo On Verge Of Semi-Final Suspension
Kaizer Chiefs have two players that are one yellow card away from missing next weekend’s crucial Nedbank Cup semi-final and will have to be careful if called upon against Platinum Stars.
The Amakhosi’s chances of winning the Absa Premiership could officially come to an end this weekend should Mamelodi Sundowns pick up three points against Bidvest Wits, meaning that the cup is their only opportunity to bring to an end a trophyless drought of nearly three years.
Chiefs haven’t managed to get their hands on a trophy since Steve Komphela’s arrival at the club in 2015, and their head coach will see his contract at Naturena expire at the end of the season. With that in mind, the cup is potentially his last chance to stake a claim for a new deal.
Given the importance of that tournament, it remains to be seen whether Komphela – who has some injury issues in defence – will risk his key defender, Daniel Cardoso, knowing that a booking will see him ruled out of the semi-final against Free State Stars.
Meanwhile, Kgotso Moleko, who could come in to replace the injured Ramahlwe Mphahlele, is also one booking away from a suspension, and Teenage Hadebe’s yellow against Chippa United means he misses tomorrow’s game.
Chiefs face Platinum Stars this evening as they look to try and move up the table and into a CAF Confederation Cup place.
