Komphela Wants Balance Between Style & Goals
Kaizer Chiefs Coach Steve Komphela Hopes For Balance Between Playing Well And Getting Positive Results
Kaizer Chiefs coach Steve Komphela admits his side need to find a balance between performing well and getting the goals, likening the difference to sweet and dry wine.
Last week, Amakhosi put in a sterling display in the Soweto derby but ultimately left the FNB Stadium empty-handed after crashing to a 3-1 loss to bitter rivals Orlando Pirates.
Then, on Saturday, the Glamour Boys failed to find top gear against Stellenbosch FC but still managed to progress to the Nedbank Cup quarter-finals with a 2-1 win over the Cape Town side.
As such, Komphela knows the team need to reach a level where strong showings on the field reflect themselves in results, something the tactician knows the club's supporters expect week in and week out.
"Football is a funny business. Last week [against Orlando Pirates] we performed well, and the result did not come. And you'll say 'do I want goals and not get [a good] performance' - they [the fans] will kill you for that," the coach told SuperSport TV.
"They want you to win, and win in style, but if you can play in style and not win, it doesn't satisfy them because they are people of success, so it is important to go for the win."
"It has to be a sweet win and not a dry one."
