Super-Sub Paez Praises Komphela
Kaizer Chiefs’ Nedbank Cup hero, Gustavo Paez, has praised Steve Komphela for the changes that he made during the victory over Acornbush United.
The Amakhosi suffered a scare against the ABC Motsepe League side as they trailed them for almost half of the game, however, the Venezuelan bagged a brace in the 79th and 85th minutes to make sure Chiefs are in the hat for tonight’s draw.
Paez, 26, has now scored three goals in the Nedbank Cup thus far this year. He also found the back of the net against Stellenbosch FC and he is adamant that the club wants to go all the way in the competition.
Speaking to Chiefs’ official website after the win, the striker said, “This is an important win for the club… We realized that time was not on our side as the game progressed, we had to do something different to win this match.

“The coach made the necessary changes when we were trailing, and that became the turning point for us.”
Meanwhile, he admitted that the pitch and weather made it tough for them, saying, “The condition of the pitch made playing good football difficult. The pitch was hard and the heat was virtually unbearable. We didn’t want to go to extra time and then penalties because that would have been a lotto scenario. We want to win this cup. However, we take it step by step and one game at the time.”
Chiefs are one of seven Absa Premiership sides in the quarterfinal draw at 19h30 this evening, with Jomo Cosmos the only top-flight side still in the tournament.
