Eymael: Everybody Will Remember Stars For Winning The Cup

By Soccer Laduma - May 20, 2018 09:15 AM

Free State Stars coach Luc Eymael says everyone will remember his side for winning the Nedbank Cup, not for the way they played in the final.

Ea Lla Koto won their first-ever Nedbank Cup title after defeating Maritzburg United 1-0 in the final on Saturday evening.

“We have the cup. When you play the final, you have to win it and that is what we did today. We put a plan in place to beat their counterattack. We knew how their combinations work, repeating balls and overloading the midfield,” Eymael told SuperSport after the game.

Belgian marksman Andre Fileccia was central to the Team of Choice’s attacking compartment and Eymael saw the need to police him effectively to implement their game-plan in the process.

“We knew Fileccia would stretch our centre-backs and then I asked my wingers to come inside but they forgot to do it. But the goal we scored was the most sufficient of our counterattack, you know.

“I know its perhaps not the nicest of football but when you arrived quickly in the team like me, you have to assess the players and playing style to suit them best for the results because at the end of the day its not how well you played especially in the final, everybody will remember Free State Stars winning the cup.

“I’m very happy for the fans, committee, players and my family. I have been eight years in Africa and its my fifth trophy in eight years in different countries,” he added.

@PHAZAMISA AKA NGOZI THE RETURN : to win games you need to convert chances you create...Maritzburg played quite well it's not like FSS outplayed them but sometimes you need a bit of luck to win games...I'm still angry with Xulu who denied Fellicia an easy scoring opportunity.Nonetheless congratulations to Luc Eymael and his boys.

In September 2013, South African club, Orlando Pirates reached an agreement with the Belgian football manager, but later the deal failed to materialize. So pirates tried getting Luc to coaching them. He's cv looks good he has been to CAF with dffrnt team and CCC and coaches some African giant teams like AS vita, Leapard n etc n helped unkown teams get recognized n won Nedbank n other cups. Atleast of he join chiefs he got a good background of winning he also helped a certain team go 23 games unbeatable..also in 2015 the were rumours linking him to pirates..now it's 2018 rumours links him to chiefs. Looks like he's used to pressure of delivering in his first season he achieved something wit a team that was fighting relegation . KHOMPELA CAN LEARN A THING OR TWO HERE 3 EMPTY SEASONS WITH A TEAM THAT IS KNOWN TO WINNING THINGS .

Congratulations to Free State Stars. They had the easiest semi-finals than Maritzburg Utd, however, took advantage yesterday.
