Orlando Pirates caretaker coach, Eric Tinkler, is ready to prepare his charges to defend their Nedbank Cup title, following the last 32 draw which was held last week Thursday, January 15.
Tinkler’s Bucs side has been pitted against minnow side ,Tornado FC who compete in the ABC Motsepe League and are ironically coached by former Bucs goal poacher, Jerry Sikhosana.
Pirates were stunned 4-1 by another so-called smaller club, Maluti FET College back in 2013 at the Charles Mopeli Stadium, however Tinkler is determined not to let his Bucs side suffer the same fate when they square up against the men from the Eastern Cape.
“This is our trophy and we have to defend it, the fact that we are starting our defence at home is also important. It will be a change from last season where we played our games away,” stated Tinkler on the Bucs website.
“It’s much harder than people expect because the smaller sides play above and beyond themselves when they come against the bigger teams.”
“Our players also find it difficult to remain motivated, but I don’t see that being a problem this time round considering what happened before against the likes of Maluti FET,” added the Bucs mentor.
