Cape Town City will be without two of their key defenders when they lock horns with Bidvest Wits in the first round of the Nedbank Cup competition.
The 24-year-old centre back, Taariq Fielies is set to miss Wednesday evening’s Nedbank clash after picking up his fourth yellow card booking on Friday.
In the same breath, Robyn Johannes will also be unavailable on Wednesday after he was shown a red card during the same encounter on Friday against Mamelodi Sundowns.
Now, Head Coach Benni McCarthy will be set to give Kwanda Mngonyama and Tshepo Gumede the stage to step up for the Citizens, when they travel away to the Bidvest Stadium on February 07.
“That gives Kwanda his chance, we have been looking to bring him in and Tshepo Gumede who played most of the games with Robyn last year, he hasn’t played for a while so it is going to be a tough one for him but in they come,” City assistant coach, Manousakis explained.
“So, that is one area that we have been blessed with, with a bit of depth and it is about how quickly can we get Matty’s (Matthew Rusike) card now and see if he can make a difference,” he added.
