PSL Opponents Don’t Intimidate Third Tier Outfit
Cape Third Tier Outfit Not Intimidated By PSL Opponents
A third tier team that is currently still challenging in the Nedbank Cup is not intimidated by PSL opponents.
In one of the Nedbank Cup Last 16 matches this afternoon, Baroka FC will host ABC Motsepe League side Steenberg United at the Peter Mokaba Stadium.
Speaking to the Siya crew, the team’s head coach Mike Lukhubeni said his team has prepared for Baroka like they do for any other team in their league.
“Our preparation has been normal. There is nothing to say that it’s the PSL or whoever. We have been preparing for winning the league. Like we have been preparing for playing teams in our league, say teams from number to number four, is the same way that we have prepared for the game against Baroka,” said the coach.
Lukhubeni has explained how he has managed to instil confidence in the youngsters in his team for a big cup match against PSL opponents.
“That’s our job as the youngsters, to guide the youngsters. If you don’t guide them right, they end up having problems. For us, to motivate the youngsters is not very difficult. We teach them what we need. The importance for them is to win the league. The Nedbank Cup will be a bonus for them. We told them that we are going to Polokwane knowing what is at stake, but the emphasis is on winning the league. We know it’s going to be difficult for the first 15 to 20 minutes, but after that, I believe that my boys will be alright,” he added.
The Mother City outfit is in second place on the log with two matches in hand. They are trailing log leaders with four points.
“We are not only the coaches, but we are the fathers of these boys. Do we really worry about losing in the Nedbank Cup? No, we don’t worry. Do we really worry about losing the league? Yes, we worry. We have a chance of winning the league, and that’s where our worry is,” concluded Lukhubeni.
