EC Bees Coach Chippa Njedu feels his side gave away two soft goals in the second half to lose 2-1 to Mamelodi Sundowns in a Nedbank Cup last-16 match on Tuesday night.
Bees took the lead in the first half, but a couple lapses in concentration in the second period cost the ABC Motsepe side their spot in the quarter-finals.
Speaking after the loss, Njedu admits his side could have done better, but they will learn from their mistakes.
“Firstly, I would like to say well done to my boys and also to Sundowns,” Njedu told SuperSport after the game.
“In the first half I think we did well although we didn’t play the way we wanted to, but we managed to get the first goal.
“In the second half, we gave them a soft goal within minutes. We didn’t respect them at the start of the second half. After 75 minutes we also gave them a soft goal.
“At half-time we told the boys in the dressing room that they (Sundowns) are going to play with crosses into the box and also not to give them the space behind the defenders. That is where we lost the game, but we will learn from our mistakes as a coach.
“I told the boys after the first half we need to maintain the lead. We told them that they are going to come second half and look for the goal, especially in the first five or ten minutes. We allowed them to come to us and they punished us within two minutes of the second half.
“But this game is going to help us in our league.”
