Stellenbosch FC coach Steve Barker felt his charges lacked a bit of quality in the final third against Kaizer Chiefs.

Stellenbosch's Nedbank Cup run came to an end following a 2-1 defeat by Kaizer Chiefs at the Moses Mabhida Stadium on Saturday.

Barker credited the Amakhosi for a well deserving victory, admitting that his charges fell short on the day.

“Congratulations to Kaizer Chiefs. I wish them all the best in the rest of the competition. It was a tough game for us. We lacked a bit of quality in the final third in the first half and when we got the goal back, I thought we had a chance to come back and we pressed a bit," Barker told SuperSport after the game.

“But ultimately I have to be proud of the players. We gave it our best shot but fell a bit short at the end."

Following a disappointing first half where they barely troubled Itumeleng Khune, they came a bit strong in the second period despite going down to a second from Leonardo Castro.

“We played some good football. I just felt once we got in the final third our options wasn’t right. But I have got to be proud of the effort," he added.

“We took on a good team like Chiefs and gave them a run for their money so what can I say."
