Ahead of todays match against minnows, Acornbush, in the Nedbank Cup, Kaizer Chiefs legend, Banks Setlhodi has warned them that it will be difficult to come straight off of their win over MamelodiSundowns and take on an unknown team.
Chiefs take on the ABC Motsepe outfit in the Nedbank Cup this afternoon and the former goalkeeper explained how difficult it is to be motivated as a player, especially on the back of a big victory.
“When you play those small teams, you know nothing about them and, after winning a game of that calibre against Sundowns, what do you do with the players? Where do you take them? If they are where they are now, they are very high up on the mountain, to bring them back down will not be easy,” he said.
With Acornbush already overcoming Cape Town City in the Round of 32, Banks looked back to another famous upset in history, reminiscing about Chiefs’ shock defeat against Seshego Stonebreakers in 1978.
“It comes down to the technical staff to bring them back,” he continued. “That’s very dangerous. You know, we were beaten by (Seshego) Stonebreakers way, way back (in the 1978 Champions of Champions Cup) and they were playing in the third division! We had just beaten (Orlando) Pirates on the Saturday. Then, the coming weekend we were going to play Stonebreakers and it was different. We were dumped out of the cup and so now it’s up to the Chiefs technical staff to bring them back down to earth.”
Today’s match gets underway at 15:00 at the Kabokweni Stadium.
