Stellenbosch’s Nkili Out To Shock Chiefs
Ayanda Nkili Thinks Stellenbosch Can Beat Kaizer Chiefs
Stellenbosch FC defender, Ayanda Nkili, says the National First Division side want to give Kaizer Chiefs a ‘run for their money’ in the Nedbank Cup this weekend.
The Amakhosi and Stellenbosch will do battle for the second consecutive season when they clash in Durban on Saturday night, and Steve Barker will be hoping to improve on last year’s 3-0 defeat.
Speaking to the Siya crew about the upcoming encounter, Nkili admitted that it was a tough draw for the NFD outfit, but remains confident of causing an upset.
He told the crew, “It’s a tough draw for us obviously, but at the same time, any team that we were going to get would have been tough. We just have to face it is as it is, and prepare as best we can.
“Maybe it’s second time lucky you know, this is football. What I can tell you is that we have to be prepared and go all out. We’re going to make sure that we give them a run for their money.”
The 27-year-old wasn’t at the club for last year's game and says there are no comparisons to be made as the team from the Western Cape look to bring a three-game winless streak to an end.
He said, “I wasn’t there for the last game, and I wouldn’t want to compare last year to this year because it’ll be a different game. We just have to make sure that we put in a performance on the day. We aren’t preparing for any individuals, we’re focused on the whole team at Chiefs.”
Chiefs host Stellenbosch at Moses Mabhida Stadium on Saturday at 20h15.
