Maritzburg’s Assassin Takes Aim At Historical Win
Andrea Fileccia Wants To Score For Maritzburg United In The Nedbank Cup Final
He’s scored nine goals since the start of 2018 – including three in the Nedbank Cup – and Andrea Fileccia is keen to finish on a high when pitted against his former employers today.
Maritzburg United go into battle with Free State Stars at 19h00 this evening at Cape Town Stadium, with both Fileccia and his club looking to try and secure their first trophy in South Africa.
As arguably the most in-form striker in the country so far this year, the 26-year-old knows that he will be a focal point for Stars’ defenders, but he’s confident that the Team of Choice can make history in the Mother City.
“We worked so hard to reach this cup final,” he told the club’s official website. “That was one of our goals at the start of the season. We want to bring the trophy to Maritzburg.
"This has been my best season in South Africa and this has also been the best season in the club’s history. I’ve scored three goals in this competition and I want to add to that tally on Saturday. I’m feeling good and looking forward to the game. We will give it our all."
Having already scored past his former team once this season, the Belgian doesn’t feel like he has anything to prove, but does want to make sure he secures a winner’s medal for himself.
He added, “I don't have anything to prove against Free State… Yes, they are my former team but I will treat it as a normal game. I want to win my first trophy in South Africa.”
Maritzburg have no suspension worries, with only Tebogo Potsane of Ea Lla Koto set to miss out in that regard, and Fadlu Davis has almost a clean bill of health for the game.
