University of Pretoria’s versatile midfielder, Siyabonga Ngubane is not daunted by the Nedbank Cup last 16 draw which has pitted his side against another University-based side in Bidvest Wits.
AmaTuks booked their seat in the last 16 with a well-deserving victory against Moroka Swallows, however the prospect of facing the high-flying Wits, who are currently third on the PSL log and tied on points with Mamelodi Sundowns in cup clash, has not dispirited the 26-year-old.
“Look they are a good team but so are we. If you look at our form in the later stages of last year and this year we are definitely on the rise,” Ngubane tells the Siya crew.
On whether he would have preferred to have faced a smaller club, the AmaTuks wide-man emphatically declared he was relishing playing Wits.
“So-called smaller teams tend to raise their game in these cup games, which makes them unpredictable and hard to plan against, I would rather play a team I’m used to playing regularly. Our recent games against Wits have been draws but this time someone will have to go home,” added the Tuks man.
The Premier Soccer League is yet to announce the date and venues of the Nedbank last 16 clashes.
