An Orlando Pirates defender has shown that he is ready for regular game-time in the first team after appearing in a match for the club’s MultiChoice Diski Challenge team this week.
Abel Mabaso and goalkeeper Wayne Sandilands were the two first team Bucs players who featured for Pirates in the MDC match against Mamelodi Sundowns on Monday.
The former Chippa United player put in a good shift for Bucs’ reserve side as he provided an assist for the team’s goal in their 1-1 draw with the Brazilians.
In a recent interview with the Siya crew last month, Mabaso said that he had been waiting for his chance at the Soweto giants.
“What I can tell you is that when my time comes for me to play I will be more than ready. It’s always good for the coaches to have lots of players they can rely on throughout all the positions,” said Mabaso in part in that interview.
So far in the current season, the 27-year-old is yet to feature in any of the official matches under Head Coach Milutin Sredojevic in the first team.
