Tinkler’s MTN8 Headache – Clean Bill Of Health

Eric Tinkler Has A Healthy SuperSport United Squad For The MTN8

By Joe Crann - Oct 11, 2017 06:45 PM @YesWeCrann
Eric Tinkler says that the fact that SuperSport United have almost everyone available for the MTN8 this weekend gives him a bit of a welcome headache going into the game.

SuperSport face Cape Town City at Moses Mabhida Stadium in Durban on Saturday as they look to follow up their Nedbank Cup victory with yet another trophy, and Tinkler is eager to carry on Stuart Baxter’s success at the club.

Under Tinkler’s tutelage Matsatsantsa have reached the final of the competition for the first time since 2012, and also managed to manoeuvre their way into the semi-finals of the CAF Confederation Cup.

Now, with SuperSport looking to win it for the first time since 2004, Tinkler says that he has an almost clean bill of health aside from the long-term injuries to Thato Mokeke and Onismor Bhasera.

He told the media on Wednesday, “Everybody is now fit and raring to go. The guys who came back from the national team are all good. Bradley had a bit of a knock on the ankle, but he’s fine. Clayton came through all good, Morgan is all good and Ronwen has no issues.

“So yeah, we have a clean bill of health and everybody is looking forward to the game.”

With more players becoming available now domestic action is returning, he also added, “It gives me a bit of a headache in terms of the selection because now everybody is available. We’ve been involved in CAF and my focus has been there, but now we have Sifiso Myeni, Azubuike Egwuekwe and Richard Boateng available.

“It makes my job a lot harder now, especially this week because they’re all highly motivated and all want to be part of the squad that wants to lift that trophy.”

SuperSport – who are the away team on the night, take on City at 19h00 on Saturday evening.

Hurted rodent reptile JACKSON Mabokgwane has not voted for Oscarine Masuluke’s spectacular goal that was nominated for the Puskas Awards. Mabokgwane was them man in the post for Orlando Pirates when Masuluke scored an equaliser for Baroka to secure a single point as Peter Mokaba Stadium. It seems the Buccaneers shot-stopper hasn’t healed from conceding the injury time goal and he is not willing to vote for the lanky Bakgaga stopper. “I’m a football player I don't go around voting‚ I only play football. Voting is for supporters‚ it’s for fans‚ people should vote for him if they like the goal‚” he bleeds Mabokgwane admits the goal is worthy of a top three Fifa nomination, however, adds that he is basing his cry on the importance of the goal and not on his Baroka counterpart’s skill. “I’m not surprised the goal is in top three because of the importance. It was in the dying minutes and he got points for his team. Funny enough I was actually named Man of the Match in that game but after his goal they gave it to him,” bleeded Mabokgwane.

Bafana Bafana and Mamelodi Sundowns star player Themba “Mshishi” Zwane will renew his contract with Bafana Ba Style. This was confirmed to Independent iDunu by his agent Jazzman Mahlakgane on Wednesday. Zwane’s contract with Sundowns is set to expire in June. “I think next week we will be done. Mshishi is staying with Sundowns. He is not going anywhere. He is still happy at Sundowns, and that’s why he will renew his contract with the club,” Mahlakgane explained. Zwane has expressed his desire to ply his trade overseas on several occasions and platform. “There’s no offer or interest from European clubs at the moment,” Mahlakgane confirmed. Mahlakgane has been criticised in the media over the last couple of years for failing to export top South African footballers to European clubs. He has managed the likes of Itumeleng Khune, Siphiwe “Shabba” Tshabalala and Teko Modise. Modise and Tshabalala are still under Mahlakgane, and he defended himself again on Wednesday. “Overseas is not everything. Mshishi can’t go to the UK because Bafana Bafana are not well ranked. So where does he go if he is not going to the UK? “He is 28 and will be turning 29. We need to be realistic. The player needs to be financial stable, and sometimes growth doesn’t mean you must go overseas,” Mahlakgane said. One thing though that Mahlakgane has mastered despite not exporting these top footballers to Europe is to ensure that they get a lot of endorsements. “Yes, I always make sure that my players are looked after. I substitute Europe for endorsements,” Mahlakgane concluded. Surely Sundowns players are smiling that Zwane is set to renew his contract because Khama Billiat and Leonardo Castro are yet to agree new deals with the club.
